Shem Von Schröck was replaced by David Hungate, the bassist who left the band after the release of Toto IV to spend more time with his family. The band released a live album titled Isolation in 1985, which featured an orchestra and sounded very much like their studio albums. After the Isolation Tour the guitarist Steve Lukather decided to bring in a second vocalist and keyboardist. They auditioned various musicians, including Fergie Fredericksen, before selecting Joseph Williams.
In 2018, Toto released a new album called Old Is New and embarked on a global tour to promote it. Lenny Castro and Shannon Forrest joined them on tour, along with Warren Ham and Shem Von Schroeck. Toto is currently working on an album of their own and has announced that they will perform live shows at the Zenith de Paris - La Villette on February 12, 2025.
